The Philharmonia in Basingstoke: the story of a partnership

As The Anvil’s Orchestra in Partnership, the Philharmonia is at the heart of classical music in Basingstoke. Bringing flagship projects from London and the international stage, find out more about the Philharmonia’s work in Basingstoke and see behind the scenes on a busy concert day.

Concerts in Basingstoke feature many of the same projects which take place in London and internationally, including in 2014/15, the Philharmonia’s flagship series City of Light: Paris 1900-1950, Ashkenazy's Sibelius series, marking the 150th anniversary of the composer's birth, as well as the arrival of the Philharmonia's exciting new London series, Philharmonia At The Movies: Sci-Fi hosted by the legendary Barry Norman.

Artists who are performing in Basingstoke this season include conductors Esa-Pekka Salonen, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Paavo Järvi, James Shearman and Diego Matheuz, alongside violinists Ray Chen and Esther Yoo and pianists Pierre-Laurent Aimard and Martin Helmchen.

This season, will also see the return of  the Philharmonia's ground-breaking music education project, Orchestra Unwrapped, which will give Hampshire's primary school children the chance to hear the Philharmonia Orchestra live at The Anvil.
