Domingo Hindoyan conductor
Pavel Kolesnikov piano
Grieg, Holberg Suite, Op. 40
Venezuela's acclaimed musical education programme El Sistema has produced many outstanding musicians, including this afternoon's conductor Domingo Hindoyan, currently Barenboim's right-hand man at the Berlin State Opera. He is joined by another rising star, Russian pianist Pavel Kolesnikov, winner of Canada's Honens International Piano Competition in 2012. Kolesnikov plays Beethoven's final and greatest piano concerto, after which Hindoyan conducts the symphony that Wagner described as “the apotheosis of the dance”.
Pavel Kolesnikov’s performance with the Philharmonia Orchestra is supported by the Hattori Foundation for Music and the Arts.
