Leading Danish composer Hans Abrahamsen writes music only when he feels compelled to do so. The music is evocative, wistful, sometimes humorous, always expressive and never wastes a note. Fairy tales and imaginary landscapes hover over both the works we hear tonight. There is something typically Danish in the mixture too, a subtlety and understatement which gives the listener the impression that the music is just out of reach.
