Chopin Piano Concerto No. 1
Dvořák Symphony No. 9, From the New World
We open our new season in Leicester with two of the best-loved works of all time – Chopin’s serene First Piano Concerto and Dvorák’s New World Symphony. Dvorák found inspiration in the America that had become his adopted home, crafting his music around the traditional melodies of Native American music and African-American spirituals. Today, the symphony’s slow movement is still one of the most instantly memorable moments in classical music, featuring the quiet, song-like beauty of the cor anglais solo.
