Rutter, Feel the Spiritbiography

Classical music is enriched by jazz and Latin in this performance by the Orchestra and Choir.

John Rutter's Feel the Spirit is a cycle of seven spiritual settings infused with the stylings of American jazz. His Magnificat sets the Latin text alongside the old English poem Of a Rose, the beginning of the Sanctus and a prayer to Mary conceived as a bright, Latin-flavoured fiesta.

John Adams' Short Ride in a Fast Machine elicited the comment from the composer: 'You know how it is when someone asks you to ride in a terrific sports car and then you wish you hadn't?!'
