Pre-concert talk with Joji Hattori

Originally written to provide incidental music for Ibsen's play of Peer Gynt, Grieg's later extracted suites gave the work an identity away from Ibsen's play. Containing the instantly recognizable 'Morning', the Suite contains some of Grieg's most remarkable orchestral writing and striking lyricism. Meanwhile Bruch's quinessentially romantic Violin Concerto is one of the best-loved works in the repertoire, bursting with exuberant themes and bravura, as well as a slow second movement adored for its powerful melody.
