Mahler Symphony No. 1

Tonight’s concert features two stirring evocations of the natural world, ranging from Mendelssohn’s Romantic evocation of the dramatic Scottish coast, to Mahler’s conjuration of Nature awakening, replete with bird-calls and the sound of a marching town band punctuating a haunting, minor-key version of children’s favourite, Frère Jacques.

This concert is supported by the Principal Friends of the Philharmonia Orchestra
