Barts Choir, one of London's largest choral societies, joins forces with the Philharmonia Orchestra for the first time in this concert of major choral works from the 19th and 20th centuries.
Poulenc's Stabat Mater, composed in 1950, premiered at the 1951 Strasbourg Festival and won the New York Critics' Circle Award for Best Choral Work.
Beethoven's Ninth Symphony is known and loved throughout the world. It has been adopted as the European Union anthem and was played at the fall of the Berlin Wall. Its famous last movement promises to bring the concert to a rousing conclusion.
