Beethoven Symphony No. 9, Choral

To mark its return to the Lichfield Festival, the Philharmonia presents Beethoven’s majestic Ninth Symphony, famous for the triumphant ‘Ode to Joy’ of its choral finale. Written with the sounds of artillery booming across the channel still fresh in his mind, Elgar’s 1919 Cello Concerto stands as a pensive elegy to the millions who lost their lives in the First World War. The Philharmonia is joined by young soloists from the Royal Northern College Of Music and Lichfield Festival’s own community choir for the Beethoven finale.
