Hrůša conducts Dvořák

Friday 16 May 2014, 7.30pm
Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury

Jakub Hrůša conductor

Truls Mørk cello

This concert showcases the rich musical heritage of the Czech Republic, from Smetana’s triumphant love-conquers-all tale, to Dvořák's Cello Concerto, which longingly echoes the folk-inspired Slavic sounds of his homeland. Meanwhile, Dvořák's Eighth Symphony is inspired by the hilly landscape of his secluded country home in northeast Iowa: ‘Melodies simply pour out of me’, he gleefully quipped as he composed.

This concert is part of the Bohemian Legends series
