Wispelwey performs Tchaikovsky

Sunday 24 Nov 2013, 7.30pm
De Montfort Hall, Leicester

Jac van Steen conductor

Pieter Wispelwey cello

This concert revolves around a theme of fairy-tales and fantasy, from Dukas’s tale of a wayward sorcerer’s apprentice to Prokofiev’s Cinderella, which captures the enchanted world of Cinderella, her Fairy Godmother and those fateful 12 chimes at midnight. Between these works, Dutch cellist Pieter Wispelwey showcases Tchaikovsky’s only major work for cello.

“[Wispelwey] not only sings, he speaks and whispers with his instrument.”
