Christophe Bertrand (1981-2010) was one of the greatest compositional talents of our time. His work is a synthesis of highly different traditions: Bertrand mentioned Richard Strauss, Stravinsky, Messiaen, Ligeti, Xenakis and Steve Reich as pivotal influences. The first UK showcase of his music includes Madrigal, a tour de force for soprano and ensemble and two ensemble works, which pulsate with infectious energy. This is music both refined and burningly intense, written by a precocious master of timbre, texture and rhythm.
