Music of Today 2008/09

A portrait of the composer Gérard Grisey conducted by Pascal Rophé and presented by Julian Anderson.

The French composer Gérard Grisey died suddenly ten years ago at the age of only 52. By coincidence, he had just completed a work entirely on the subject of death, the Four Songs for Crossing the Threshold, which we revive tonight. Pitting a soprano against a unique group of mainly low instruments, they are by turns meditative, startlingly lyrical and radiantly beautiful.

FREE admission.
