Ancestral lineage determined that Giacomo Puccini would enter into the world of music as a church organist. But it was through the art form of opera, introduced to him during his time at the Milan Conservatory in the 1880s, that Puccini found fame and made him the most profitable composer of the 20th Century. His Messa di Gloria is one of his earliest compositions, dating to his pre-Conservatory days, and manages to infuse much of the decadence found in his more celebrated opera works within a liturgical framework. Also performed will be Verdi’s Pater Noster. The world-renowned choir of Kings College, under the conduction of Stephen Cleobury, shall be singing the collection of sacred choral works that have been performed together since their publish in 1898.
