Johannes Schöllhorn's Anamorphoses is a 'composed interpretation' of a sacred cow of the musical canon, Bach's The Art of the Fugue. Schöllhorn carries the listener masterfully through a musical hall of mirrors, much as an imaginative stage director might place a classic play within a contemporary perspective. With its unexpected and often humorous musical allusions and its strikingly inventive, sometimes shadowy, sometimes mock-virtuosic instrumentation, Anamorphoses challenges entrenched habits of listening in an exciting and amusing way.
