This legendary Russian virtuoso makes a rare London appearance in association with his concert with the Philharmonia Orchestra on 9 February 2012, performing three essential masterpieces of the piano repertoire - Schubert's terse and powerful A minor Sonata D784, a set of Brahms's exquisitely reflective late piano intermezzi and Liszt's monumental Sonata in B minor.
Volodos's first CD, released in 1997, featured transcriptions by Vladimir Horowitz and Volodos himself, and caused an international sensation, scooping prizes including the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik, a Gramophone Award and the Echo Klassik 1999. His Liszt recording on Sony Classical was likewise showered with accolades.
This concert is part of the International Piano Series 2011-12.
