Brahms Violin Concerto

Mahler Symphony No. 1

The Philharmonia’s Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor Esa-Pekka Salonen brings the works of two musical giants to Berlin's Philharmonie. Mahler’s cosmic First Symphony contains within its walls the rustling sounds of nature, a street band, klezmer music and a satirical version of Frère Jacques building to one of the most rocket-fuelled codas of any symphony. Before Brahms’s intimate Violin Concerto, written for his friend and virtuoso violinist Joseph Joachim, and one of the handful of violin concertos that remains a staple in the repertoire of any world-class violinist.
