Beethoven Symphony No. 2

Mahler Symphony No. 1
The Philharmonia’s Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor Esa-Pekka Salonen brings the works of two musical giants to Paris’s Champs-Elysées theatre. Mahler’s cosmic First Symphony contains within its walls the rustling sounds of nature, a street band, klezmer music and a satirical version of Frère Jacques building to one of the most rocket-fuelled codas of any symphony. Before, Beethoven’s exuberant Second Symphony, full of energy and humour but written during a period of personal crisis over-clouded by Beethoven’s impending deafness.
