Beethoven Symphony No. 3, Eroica
Karl-Heinz Steffens conducts Beethoven’s titanic Eroica Symphony, twice as long as the symphonies of Haydn and Mozart, and often said to mark the beginning of the Romantic period. Before this, Mendelssohn’s ever-popular Hebrides overture, which depicts the loneliness of Fingal’s Cave on the Scottish Island of Caffa and the rolling waves of the sea and Chopin’s glorious First Piano Concerto, performed by Sergei Redkin.
