Prokofiev Romeo and Juliet excerpts

Two houses, both alike in dignity… and two unashamedly melodious takes on Shakespeare’s greatest love story. Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet redefined musical romance, and gave us one of the most celebrated love themes in all music. And with his impassioned melodies, bittersweet harmonies and taut, angular rhythms, Sergei Prokofiev brought the star-cross’d lovers dancing into the 20th century. In between, superstar pianist Simon Trpčeski brings his “phenomenal technique” (Daily Telegraph) to Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto.

PLEASE NOTE: Krzysztof Urbański is unfortunately indisposed and has had to withdraw from this performance. We're delighted that Elim Chan, winner of the 2014 Donatella Flick conducting competition, is stepping in at short notice.
