A rare chance to hear the Philharmonia's acclaimed string section led by the orchestra's Concert Master, Zsolt-Tihamér Visontay. The concert opens with Britten's playful Simple Symphony, a work based on eight themes that the composer wrote as a child. Youth, fun and character are all central to this vibrant work, illustrated with movements with names such as Boisterous Bourée and Playful Pizzicato. Visontay then steps up to the soloist's platform to perform and direct Mozart's Third Violin Concerto. The concert finishes with a chamber work for strings, originally a sextet and performed here in its string orchestra version.
