Stravinsky Funeral Song

Davies Forest - A Concerto for Four Horns and Orchestra

--interval--

Ravel Daphnis et ChloƩ (complete)

Rediscovered in 2016, over a hundred years after Stravinsky composed the piece in 1908 to commemorate the death of his teacher Rimsky-Korsakov, Funeral Song was in fact considered by the composer himself to be one of his best early works. Specially commissioned by Esa-Pekka Salonen for the 70th Anniversary of the Philharmonia Orchestra, Tansy Davies brings her unique iridescent, rhythmical soundworld to her Concerto for Four Horns and Orchestra, heard here in its Spanish premiere.  By contrast, Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloé is a lush orchestral exploration of human passion that represents one of the high points of musical Impressionism.
