Moorcraft Reflections (after Gibbons)(world premiere)
Illean Januaries(world premiere)
Shin The Hunter's Funeral for Ensemble(world premiere)
The culminating concert of the Philharmonia Orchestra's Composers' Academy, in partnership with the Royal Philharmonic Society, presents world premieres from three emerging composers - Lisa Illean, Gareth Moorcraft, and Donghoon Shin - performed under the baton of Patrick Bailey. Over the course of the year the composers have worked closely with Philharmonia Orchestra musicians, the conductor, visiting composers and Music of Today Artistic Director Unsuk Chin. This is an exciting opportunity to hear the work of the newest generation of composers in the UK today.
For an in depth look at the process and inspirations behind composing, read Lisa Illean's post on the Philharmonia blog on her piece, Januaries.
In the evening performance at 7.30pm, hear Yuri Temirkanov lead the Orchestra in a performance of Shostakovich's memorable Fifth Symphony.
This concert is part of the Music of Today series
