Vaughan Williams Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis

Ravel Piano Concerto in G

Walton Symphony No. 1

Opening with Vaughan Williams’ lush and unmistakably British Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis, this programme moves on to Vaughan Williams’s teacher, Ravel, whose expansive Piano Concerto in G is performed by Swiss pianist Francesco Piemontesi. The first ever recording of Walton’s Symphony No. 1 – one of the most enduring of English symphonies – was made by the Philharmonia in 1953, conducted by the composer himself.
