Margarita Balanas cello
Vassilis Varvaresos piano

Prize-winning cellist, Margarita Balanas, studied at the Purcell School and is currently an undergraduate at the Royal Academy of Music. An international soloist and active chamber musician, Balanas comes to the Royal Festival Hall to perform works by Ligeti and Rachmaninov. Ligeti's sonata for solo cello, an unaccompanied affair, reflects the composer's passionate, Eastern European influences, while Rachmaninov's sonata sees cellist and pianist united with equally challenging and intense musical parts.
