Written in the late 1930s Walton’s Violin Concerto is widely considered to be a declaration of love radiating with the happiness that Walton felt at time. A dazzling work, the concerto is infused with the sunshine, overwhelming light and vivid colours that Walton experienced during his sojourn to Italy in the early 1920s. One of the most popular works from fellow Englishman Gustav Holst, The Planets perfectly encapsulates the ideas and emotions associated with each of the planets in the solar system, from the war-like themes of Mars to the mystical Neptune.
