The second concert in Yefim Bronfman’s cycle of the two Brahms Piano Concertos. From the dark turbulence of its opening, through the moving requiem-like central movement to the open-air optimism of its finale, Brahms’ First Piano Concerto is one of his most exhilarating works. It is heard next to the life-giving celebratory energy of Schumann’s Second Symphony.
This concert is part of the St David's Hall Orchestral Concert Season 2009/2010
Unfortunately Christoph von Dohnányi is unwell and is unable to conduct this concert. We are very grateful to Fabio Luisi, who has stepped in to conduct in Maestro von Dohnányi's place at extremely short notice. Please note that the opening work in the programme has changed but the rest of the programme remains unaltered.
