A festive programme brings the Philharmonia to the Christmas season, with the sleigh ride in Prokofiev’s Lieutenant Kijé setting the scene for a programme of wintery cheer. Mendelssohn’s soaring Violin Concerto provides a moment of respite in the middle of the hustle and bustle before Tchaikovsky’s seasonal ballet music to The Nutcracker completes the programme. Telling an enchanting story of a little girl whose Christmas gifts come to life, this is a firm favourite of young and old alike.
