Step inside one of the most popular pieces of classical music, Holst’s The Planets, with the Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen.

Paul Rissmann leads an afternoon’s musical journey through Holst’s astrological portrait of 7 planets, including Mars (Bringer of War), Jupiter (Bringer of Jollity) and Venus (Bringer of Peace), together with Joby Talbot’s new companion piece Worlds, Stars, Systems, Infinity. In the first half of the concert Paul, Salonen and the Orchestra explore the piece from the inside out, using large-screen projection, musical demonstrations and interviews to bring it to life.

In the second half Esa-Pekka Salonen conducts a full-scale performance of The Planets, culminating in the world première of Joby Talbot’s music. A rare opportunity to see into the heart of a great classic, equally suitable for the seasoned concert-goer or the uninitiated.

Tickets: £15 (concessions and under 16s £7.50)
This concert is suitable for children aged 7 upwards

Don't miss Universe of Sound: a virtual Philharmonia Orchestra with Esa-Pekka Salonen performing The Planets in our major new digital installation, at London's Science Museum from 23 May - 8 July.
