We regret to announce that Allison Bell is unfortunately indisposed and unable to perform at this evening's concert; in place of Trois Airs pour un opéra imaginaire there will now be a workshop analysing the piece, with musical excerpts
We commemorate the 30th anniversary of the death of Claude Vivier, who was murdered at age 34 with performances of two of his major works. This visionary Franco-Canadian composer left a fascinating collection of music which has ensured his permanently growing reputation. Vivier absorbed influences as diverse as Asian traditional music, Stockhausen and plainchant; his music ritualistic, hypnotic, hovering and hallucinatory, charged with emotion and seductively colourful.
