Cinema has produced some of music’s most iconic themes, an Academy Award securing a soundtrack’s place in the hearts and minds of film fans worldwide. On Saturday 1 June, in a change to the programme originally billed, Barry Norman hosts an evening of OSCAR-winning classics, conducted by Carl Davis, celebrating scores from some of the most illustrious films in silver-screen history, including Lawrence of Arabia, Singin’ in the Rain and Out of Africa. With a career that has spanned over 50 years, Norman is one of the UK's most respected film critics, his wealth of experience making him the ideal host for a journey through cinema history.

BAFTA-award winning composer and conductor Davis (The French Lieutenant's Woman, 1981) is famed for his interpretations of popular soundtracks and has performed compilation programmes for audiences all around the world. ‘A Night at the Oscars’ is one of his most popular programmes and was recently played to a sold-out Symphony Hall in Birmingham. In November 2012 Davis conducted the Philharmonia for a gala evening celebrating the 50th anniversary of the James Bond films and, in November 2013, will conduct the orchestra for a rare live screening of the silent masterpiece Napoléon.
